Satpathy wins Sundargarh Open chess title

Subhransu Mohan Satpathy of Bhubaneswar won the title in the 12th Sundargarh Open All-Odisha Chess Tournament at Jay Durga Club, Rangadhipa, Sundargarh today. He scored seven points from a possible eight to pocket the top prize of Rs 6,000.
Rakesh Kumar Nayak (Khurda) and Manoj Kumar Panigrahi (Puri) also garnered seven points each but settled with second and third positions respectively on the basis of buchholtz tie-break score. Nayak received Rs 4,000, while Panigrahi was given Rs 3,000.
Sundargarh Additional District Magistrate Rabinarayan Mishra handed over the trophy and cash prizes at the closing function. Host Sundargarh District Chess Association president Rabinarayan Mishra and secretary Shyam Sundar Beriha were present on the occasion.
Altogether 108 players from 12 districts have joined the three-day tournament, which carried a total prize fund of Rs 50,000, including cost of trophies.
